Founded in 1859 by Mrs Margaret Byers; in 1987, amalgamated with richmond Lodge School, a neighbouring girls' grammar. Pupils come from wide varitety of backgrounds in Northern Ireland and abroad; extensive mature grounds in south Belfast, within walking distance of Queen's University of Belfast, Ulster Museum and art galleries and theatres. On two adjacent campuses, within a few minutes' walk of each other; thriving boarding department. Facilities include careers suite, drama theatre, two fully-equipped internet-ready PC suites, specialist language centre, well-resourced library, sixth-form centre, sports facilities, swimming pool and technology centre.
